The Vintage Cookbook Collection - The Cook Not Mad: Or Rational Cookery ~ 1972 Reprint of Canada's First Cookbook
I've been on yet another vintage cookbook buying spree. I purchased reprint editions of the U.S. & Canadian versions of The Cook Not Mad: Or Rational Cookery. The American edition was first published in 1830 and a nearly identical Canadian edition followed in 1831, providing readers with practical and simple information on how to manage households and prepare tasty victuals.
While I think I'll pass on some of the receipts (roast mutton, calf's head, cottage beer, etc.), the updated recipes for Pound Cake, Cheese And Bacon Muffins, and Flower Pot Bread are on my need-to-try list.
Also note the above fire-safety instructions - Frontier Stop, Drop, & Roll!

The Vintage Cookbook Collection - Milk From A Wild Goat & Assorted Recipes
I am a collector of many things, especially old cook books and recipes. I recently purchased a copy of The American Woman's Cook Book and found a handful of recipes tucked inside by a previous owner. "Milk From A Wild Goat" is the most intriguing. This Pineapple Salad just could be weirdly delicious. And if you happen to be a fruitcake afficianado, S. S. Kresge Company's recipes may be right up your alley.

QOTD - William Makepeace Thackeray
“The world is a looking-glass, and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face. Frown at it, and it will in turn look sourly upon you; laugh at it and with it, and it is a jolly, kind companion.” – William Makepeace Thackeray
